MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2025 May 09 Observer(s): Oey et al. Institution(s): Michigan Instrument: CCDS Worked for 8.5 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Clear, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Guider did not work from the start of tonight although was fine last night. Tried numerous things and ultimately found 2 issues: 1) it doesn't recognize the location of the box you draw to identify the guide star. 2) the guide probe stopped moving. Restarted MIS to solve 2) but 1) is still a problem. Found that it wants the GS to be way on the edge of the field, literally falling off the field. When moving the star in MIS to the center, the problem happens again -- does not recognize the drawn box for GS. Rebooted MaximDL but did not help. Also when closing down, the telescope would not stop tracking! Moved to zenith by setting HA track rate to 0, but the tel continued tracking. Tried numerous things, but nothing helped. Finally stopped it by the hard switch. Dome covers also would not respond to TCS and had to be activated by hard switch. So turned all switches off. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2025 May 10 [5:41:29]
