MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2026 Jan 06 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 7 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable End: Overcast, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Clouds all night, but variable in the first half with some stretches that were reasonably good interspersed by half-hourish intervals of opaque high cloud. The satellite IR images showed a ragged band of cloud streaming in from the SW, with gaps in it. Around 1 AM it finally clouded up for good - no more gaps coming, so I closed around 1:30 and filled the dewar. I got infinity times as much data tonight as I had expected, so I guess that's a plus. After I closed I noticed the weather was saying showers were possible and the radar was showing some echoes. It's supposed to start raining in earnest in the morning -- I'm definitely staying closed, and hence filing this report now around 2 AM. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2026 Jan 7 [2:40:33]
