MDM Trouble Report for 2002 Jun 14 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Scaife, Terndrup (OSU) Instrument: 8K Problem(s) Encountered: About 01:30, we received an error message in detcom terminating in some pixels might be missing (or something like that). After several more exposures, we noted that the data values in image sections 4-7 were crazy. Then error messages such as Can't communicate with 2nd timing board. or Can't communicate with 2nd utility board. began to appear. We followed steps #1 and #2 on the webpage Rescue procedures in case of failing exposures. (Cycle power, then cycle power + restart DetCom). Nothing happened. It appeared that one of the fibers (the upper one) on the slave box was not hitting the box perpendicular to it. It came lose from the slave box with only the slightest tug. We carefully reinserted the fiber and then followed steps #1 and #2 of the rescue procedure again. The 8K then came up normally (no error messages, correct voltages displayed for first and second voltages, etc.) We proceded to take data. Two hours were lost (about 1 not noticing the data were flaky, 1 involved in restarting the 8K). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Jun 14 [3:42:44]
