MDM Trouble Report for 2002 Mar 10 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Eric Miller (Michigan) Instrument: Echelle Problem(s) Encountered: Two problems: 1) Just before midnight, the connection to the external Kitt Peak network (i.e. everything outside the MDM subnet, 140.252.83.0) was lost and never came back up. Every machine (at least that I tried) in the MDM subnet can see each other (kilauea, chichon, etc.) but none of them can see other KPNO machines or external sites. 2) At about 4 am, while I was rotating the dome to the east at the control monitor in the dome, all power shut off (monitor, drives, dome motion, red lights) for about 2 seconds. The power came back on, and I was able to continue moving the dome, and switching the telescope power off and on worked to restart it. The computer power wasn't disrupted, so I was able to continue observing. Power was also apparently lost to the dorm building at some point, probably at that time. I don't know if the generator kicked in or commercial power came back immediately, but commercial power is now working. None of these problems interfered with observing. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Mar 11 [5:18:25]
