MDM Trouble Report for 2002 Feb 22 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Glikman & Gerardy (Columbia & Dartmouth) Instrument: TIFKAM Problem(s) Encountered: We noticed two problems with TIFKAM tonight. First, the step out errors on the movement of the prefilter wheel continue to be a problem. The prefilter wheel seems to get stuck often when moving toward higher prefilter numbers. Usually, walking the prefilter all the way around the other way will clear the problem. Second, just after sunset, the IC seemed to suffer a communication failure with the instrument. We could start and stop movie mode, but couldn't do any prefilter or filter movements. The commands would just time out. So we tried to re-boot the system, quitting prospero, caliban etc, and re-booting the IC & WC. While re-booting, the IC began to complain about timeout errors while pinging various ports. After several attempts to get the system up, we finally resorted to turning off the IC & WC, killing caliban & prospero, and then turning off the power to the instrument. Then we turned everything back on, and the IC no longer complained about time out errors, and after a couple of re-start iterations, we were able to get prospero to startup cleanly. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Feb 23 [6:53:48]
