MDM Trouble Report for 2002 Mar 4 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Vestergaard (OSU) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: Starting around midnight and lasting for about 3 hours the telescope tended to jump in the East - West direction. It would do this both when I was guiding (resulting in loosing both position, the guidestar, and the exposure) and when I was not guiding. I was pretty close to Zenith for most of those 3 hours, so the reason is not clear to me. However, it must clearly have been problems with the tracking because the initial jump of the telescope was always some 10-30 arcsec east and then it would often skid around (jump east, then a little west, then east again). Once I was in the midst of centering my object on the slit (small offsets) when it happened. It was hard to `hold' the telescope with the keypad. The winds were the same as earlier and later. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Mar 3 [6:30:54]
