MDM Trouble Report for 2002 Nov 15 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Zosia Krusberg (Dartmouth College) Instrument: Echelle Problem(s) Encountered: Both tonight and last night the telescope has been giving off strange high frequency noises (entirely irregular). Yesterday I thought it might have been related to the wind as the problem only occurred while the telescope was pointed east (which was where the wind was coming from). However, tonight, even at times of no wind, the same noise would be given off. It appears to happen whenever the telescope is at an hour angle between roughly -4 and 0. Both today and yesterday this noise was accompanied by a drift in RA of about 10m, although on several occasions it would keep drifting. I checked in the dome to try to see where the noise came from, but was unsuccessful. Essentially, I was unable to observe anything in that area of the sky and had to wait for the objects to move out of the critical area. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Nov 16 [5:53:46]
