MDM Trouble Report for 2002 Nov 6 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Monique Aller (University of Michigan) Instrument: Wilbur + MODSPEC Problem(s) Encountered: I had two (minor) problems during the night. First, I had the guider PC die twice. That is it completely refused to respond to any commands on the keyboard. The first time it would beep when I hit a key. The second time it died, it did not even beep when I hit keys. (Also, shortly before the second time it died I was shocked on the handpaddle, which may or may not have caused the failure.) Both times I was only able to fix the problem by turning off the PC and restarting it. This seemed to fix the problem both times. The other minor problem I had was when I went to one of my sources. The telescope went to the position, and I could see the object on the guide television. The telescope refused to admit that it was there, however, and after a couple of minutes of Moving appearing on the TCS screen, it printed the message Dec Encoders Not Responding . At this point I hit the stop button on the xtcs window and then resent the coordinates and hit go. This time, although there was another lengthy delay of Moving , even though the telescope was looking at the source, it eventually seemed to accept that it was on the source. This problem did not repeat itself during the night, and was probably a minor glitch. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2002 Nov 6 [4:08:27]
