MDM Trouble Report for 2003 Jun 28 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): eve armstrong (columbia) Instrument: templeton/direct Problem(s) Encountered: Didn't lose any hours, but the entire night's data is of poor quality: Each image indicates that the ccd is being occulted by something. counts fall off steeply from the center to the north edge of the chip. any image in jk/03jun27/v1028cyg/ on kilauea will show you what i mean. ran various tests, none of which changed anything. dome azimuth -- was correct on the control system monitor. checking by eye in dome, there was no dome occultation. moving dome left or right produced no change in image quality. mirror covers and dark hatch -- by eye in dome, they appeared completely open. xmis, xtcs3, ccdcom, iraf, ximtool -- i closed and reinitialized xmis (guider and filter wheel) several times. no change. then closed and restarted xtcs3, iraf, ximtool, and ccdcom. no change. guider -- in case guider was lost, i reinitialized, resent to origin, sent to various random coordinates .. no change. other filters -- i had been in BG 38. cycled through other filters -- same pattern of dimming toward north. didn't look quite as bad in U or B. moving to new field -- moved telescope to field that required almost a 180 degree dome turn; same quality of image. moved back to original field; same. Continued through the night with targets as far south (the 'good' side) on the chip as possible. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Jun 28 [2:53:33]
