MDM Trouble Report for 2003 Nov 22 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Onken (OSU) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: Two problems: 1. the finder mirror wouldn't respond to the switch on the silver box in the control room and was stuck in the 'in' position. The fuse looked okay, although I think I may have damaged it when I pulled it out later to double-check. Bob talked me through how to manually move the finder mirror out of the way, and I just didn't take any lamp spectra until the end of the night. 2. later in the night, I noticed that my guide star was often being lost, and always in the same direction (the telescope was too far to the East). After playing with a number of the TVGuider parameters, I came to the conclusion that the guider wasn't doing anything at all. It seemed to be reading correctly, but there weren't any of the usual noises coming from the dome to indicate an adjustment to the telescope position at the end of each guider integration period. I tried exiting out of the TVGuider program and restarting it, restarting the program with the initialization flag, and rebooting the guider computer. Nothing helped, so I just periodically used the hand paddle to recenter the guide star (almost always just moving to the West, I suppose because of a slight mis-match between the telescope's tracking rate and the sky-turning rate). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Nov 23 [6:47:26]
