MDM Trouble Report for 2003 Nov 23 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Onken (OSU) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: Two problems again tonight: 1. At first, the lamp GUI wouldn't respond. A few moments later it gave me another 'asynchronous memory fault' and rebooted Kilauea. I tried just getting the system going again without shutting it all down first, but the xmis kept hanging up on initialization. Probably, I just needed to reboot the MIS computer, but I didn't realize that right away. So I finally shut everything down and started from the beginning (now even knowing where the IE is). In my struggles to get it all going again, it seemed that you needed to have the WC powered up before turning on the IC (which is contrary to the Propero troubleshooting guide) in order to find the SCSI hard drives. Eventually I got it working. 2. Near the end of the night, the finder mirror stopped moving again. I pulled out the fuse and thought it looked okay (checking more carefully than the other night). I found a replacement fuse in the shop room, just in case. I put in the new fuse and nothing happened. So I closed up the dome and put the telescope at the zenith. Then I went and poked at the finder mirror gear with my finger and it started moving. It looked like it was working, so to see if it was just stuck before, I put the old fuse back in. It didn't work, so I put the new one in again, and it still didn't work. I don't know what's going on. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Nov 24 [7:19:07]
