MDM Trouble Report for 2003 Oct 17

Problem(s) Encountered:
The filter wheel seemed to seize up at about 2:30am.  We tried 
fixing the problem by pointing the telescope to zenith, 
which allowed the wheel to move again but only very very 
slowly (it took about 2 minutes to move from one filter to the 
one next to it).  For the rest of the night we will observe 
one target 
in only one filter, but if the filter wheel does not recover by 
tomorrow night this will present a real problem for our 
observing program which consists of BVRI imaging of many stars 
around the sky.  

I have also noticed that as we tried to continue to move the 
wheel--albeit very slowly--it responds more and more slowly, 
now taking >3 minutes to change between filters.  I will not 
change filters again until I receive further instructions.  

I will try to call Bob in the morning to resolve the problem.
