MDM Trouble Report for 2003 Oct 18 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Marshall, Pepper (OSU) Instrument: Templeton Problem(s) Encountered: Same problem as last night. The filter wheel worked fine until 1:30 am, then it failed and timed out every time we tried to move it. We opened up the filter wheel and saw what the problem was: the filter wheel was spinning many times before finally reaching the selected position. We tried cycling the power to the MIS, restarting XMIS, pointing the telescope to zenith, but to no avail. Not sure what else to try... Not sure how to fix the problem, although I suspect one of the position sensors is going bad. Both nights the problem has happened when going from an I to a B filter more than halfway through the night. One more thing: I noticed at the very end of the night that the filter wheel seems to be working okay again after ~4 hours of not working (we tried it several times since it failed). Apparently it just needed a rest! But this is still a problem in the middle of the night.... ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Oct 19 [5:25:42] NOTE: This trouble report replaces the previous report for 2003 Oct 18
