MDM Trouble Report for 2003 Feb 1 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: modspec + echelle Problem(s) Encountered: [This trouble actually occurred on Feb 2, but I'm in a date box because trouble reports are tied directly to dates. So I'm fictionalizing that this occurred on Feb 1, because it doesn't matter when it happened.] After I took the first exposure of the night, CCDcom returned the error message: ccd_aread: wrong aio finished, expected 0. This is bad. Failed, return code = 0, elapsed = 2.594000 . I tried df echelle , and it responded with Error in download -4 (camera not responding) I had to do the following procedure twice before I could get going again; I had the procedure in some old notes. CCD power OFF - wait (a *long* time it turns out) CCD power ON hit reset button start a new ccdcom program [I have notes to do some diagnostics as follows: diag db 2 diag ii diag ic --- this last should respond Camera communication established and finally: df echelle ut init ut The first time I attempted this it failed at df echelle , so I tried it again; this time I waited several minutes with the power off, and cycled the power on the fiber-optic communication box in the computer room for the hell of it (I don't imagine it had anything to do with it but I wanted to get on the air and figured it wouldn't hurt). After things are working you'll want to diag db 0 -- to reset the diagnostic debugging output to zero. I think the secret when this happens is to wait for what seems a very long time for the Leach electronics to completely reset, like maybe 5 minutes. The guider computer was also not answering to the keyboard (I hadn't turned it off since last night), Ctrl-alt-delete rebooted it this time. No time lost. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2003 Feb 2 [21:30:08]
