MDM Trouble Report for 2003 Sep 7

Problem(s) Encountered:
The mirror covers do not open in spite of our best efforts
and following the procedures described in the manuals:

1) We attempted to release the covers, after tilting
   the telescope, with the help of a rod. We were able to
   release one of the covers; however, it returned to its 
   original position upon pointing the telescope towards 
   the zenith.

2) We repeatedly moved the position valve on the control box
   (located in the SW corner of the dome) from 'Compressor' to
   'Cylinder' for a short period of time (a few seconds), with
   no effect whatsoever.

Please note that a shutdown was performed the previous morning
and we are unsure whether our problem might be related to it.
