MDM Trouble Report for 2004 Dec 2 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Tibbetts (Michigan) Instrument: TIFKAM Problem(s) Encountered: The initial problem of the night was tambora crashing, which was resolved by restrting tambora and IC. Shortly after this occured, though, I noted that the RA displayed oon the telescope control system was changing, despite the fact that the telescope was clearly tracking the object I was observing. I first tried turning off tracking, and nothing changed, as expected. Then I tried moving the telescope east/west. The telescope moved fine, however the RA did not change in response, and instead just continued changing with the sidereal time, and there was no change in the hour angle. TCS did respond to changes in declination, though. No amount of turning the controls in the dome off and on helped anything. Next I tried quiting and re-initializing xmis and xtcs. This led to the discovery that when trying to initialize xmis, it stalls trying to initialize the guider and then crashes. We tried power cycling the MIS computer to no avail. And we also checked that the cables going into MIS were secure, and checked all of its fuses. At that point I couldn't think of anything else to try and shut down for the night. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Dec 3 [2:09:23]
