MDM Trouble Report for 2004 Jun 30 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): holly sheets (dartmouth college) Instrument: mark II + templeton Problem(s) Encountered: The guider seemed to have trouble holding east/west, particularly when looking south. The winds were strong, out of the south, so i suspect that's the problem. The guider would well overcorrect, upwards of 3 to 5 in dy, and then oscillate around the position it was supposed to hold. The relays make a stuttering sound before the telescope actually begins to slew north, but once it's moving, it sounds fine. The guide probe was blocking part of the field. It should have been in the slit position, as I know we told it to go there when we started spectra. I tried this menu option again, after noticing at the start of the night that a bright start kept fading awfully near the center of the screen. It had no effect. Then I moved to 'origin', back to 'slit', and it seemed fine. The rest of the night, I had much less trouble with the moonlight than previously. The brightness was much more uniform instead of the weird reflections I saw before. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Jul 1 [4:57:02]
