MDM Trouble Report for 2004 Dec 2 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Diane Paulson (Michigan) Instrument: 8k Problem(s) Encountered: 1) Two of the chips have unusual responses tonight. When I look at the initial display in ds9, if the chips are numbered 1234 then chips 4 and 6 are troubled. When I take 8765 short exposures (few minutes or less) then these chips have too high of a background (approaches saturation within 2 minutes). When I integrate for 10+ minutes the background levels are normal. The flats and biases from the beginning of the night are fine. 2) The telescope was slowly drifting to the southeast during the night and became progressively worse during the night. The telescope suddenly jumped at around 12:20-1am (possibly coincident with the change of focus of the guider- see #3 below). It offset by at least 10 arcminutes! 3) I was able to focus the finder (or #1 ) camera but was unable to focus the other camera. The knob to change the focus for camera #2 seemed a little loose. The focus of #1 was lost at about 1am. It seems to have slipped positions, because the telescope focus was unchanged. I had to refocus after this slip. 4) Please fill the big dewar. It is running low. Thanks. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Dec 3 [3:43:55]
