MDM Trouble Report for 2004 Oct 12 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Frank (OSU) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: Crash of IC and WC around midnight : error message on screen -> asynchronous memory fault . After several attempts of rebooting, success following Jen Marshall's online trouble shooting procedure -> however : still unsatisfactory synchronisation between IC and WC (cf. red flags on propsero status). Shift in grating discovered after start-up procedure of prospero -> fixed without problem. Shortly afterwards : at first slight pointing irregularities, then loss of tracking. Error message DEC encoder not responding on screen when attempting to slew with hand-paddle. Several attempts of turning tracking off and on finally restored the old status, however, then both slit-viewer and guider camera severely out of focus. When finally ready again to observe, clouds came moving in - and forced long observations of 'western objects' (as fewer clouds there). Red part of CCD seems to work now - although at times the formerly 'dead' region shows unusual features (faint double line, 'fuzzy' patches). Both guider and slit viewer cameras and screens worked very well. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2004 Oct 12 [7:18:20]
