MDM Trouble Report for 2005 Apr 22 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Halpern (Columbia) Instrument: Templeton Direct Problem(s) Encountered: First, there is considerable difficulty with the set and guide motions in the N-S direction. The guide button has to be held down for 10-15 seconds before it will move, most of the time. It's usually more effective to set first, and then you can guide in the same direction. Furthermore, it seems that both the set and guide motions in the N-S directions don't work at southerly declinations. Finally, the guider focus hand paddle doesn't seem to be working in either direction. Fortunately, the guider happened to be in good focus already. After shutting down, I moved the coarse adjustment of the motor to approximately the middle of its travel. But when I hold down the fine adjustment toggle switch for a long time, I still see no motion along the scale in either direction. It's as if there were no power to the motor. I don't know if this is related, but I pulled out a little piece of crumpled scotch tape that was sticking out from above the slide on which the motor travels. It didn't seem very important. Tomorrow night, I will try to readjust the focus of the guider very carefully with the coarse adjustment, but I don't know what else I can test to diagnose this problem. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2005 Apr 23 [6:37:05]
