MDM Trouble Report for 2005 Nov 13 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Depoy et al. (OSU) Instrument: echelle Problem(s) Encountered: We encountered two problems. First, there was an error with the CCD readout that on one occasion required a hard reboot of the CCD. The error message read as follows: error encountered in asynchronous read. Data suspect, failed. return code = 950272 This happened several times, and all but one time, we were able to fix the problem using clear, and dl, and df echelle. One time, however, this did not work, and Jennifer Marshall had to actually manually reboot the CCD on the telescope. The second problem was with the declination, as read out on the TCS monitor. TCS said that the dec would slowly drift, even when we were guiding on a star during observations. The strange thing was that the guide star never moved out of the guiding box, and the box didn't move on the screen. You could also not tell a difference in consecutive images taken, even though this drift was apparently going on. The drift was about 10-15 arcsec in about an hour of observing. Since this drift didnt' seem to be apparent in our images, it really didnt' prevent any observing, but is still quite strange. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2005 Nov 13 [6:41:55]
