MDM Trouble Report for 2005 May 24 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Bonfield, Schawinski (Oxford) Instrument: TIFKAM Problem(s) Encountered: Summary - readout of TIFKAM's array stalled during an AVEGO exposure, and we haven't been able to wake it up, though we haven't tried too hard. Before the night's observing began, chichon had crashed. With Bob's help over the phone, we were able to recover it and were taking images successfully. We started to take science data, and began a sequence of dithered exposures, and all was fine until the 5th exposure, when Prospero decided to change the exposure number back down to 0003 and reported, correctly, that this image already existed before giving it a unique filename. In the middle of the 6th exposure, the readout stalled during one of the 'avego' integrations, and we have not been able to recover it - pressing X to abort caused the 'ABORTING, please wait...' message to appear, but the prospero prompt has still not returned. The status of the chip, according to the monitor that displays the image preview, is IDLE. We should point out that we have not tried very hard to recover TIFKAM because, luckily, we received a request to image a target of opportunity using RETROCAM. The object, a gamma ray burst, seems sufficiently interesting to spend the entire night on, so we don't want to do anything that might upset the fact that RETROCAM is currently working. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2005 May 24 [22:32:16]
