MDM Trouble Report for 2006 Oct 10 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Prieto & Eastman (OSU) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: We tried to test out the new 50 l/mm grating. After struggling to identify some of the lines for about an hour, we issued a command center -1000 , which made prospero freeze. We power cycled the IE, and issued a seqinit command on the IC to get it running again. Upon restarting, we reentered the grooves and order, but instead of issuing newcenter 0 we accidentally issued center 0 , with the wavelength undefined. This caused the number in brackets next to the number of motor steps to 0 (ie GratTilt 51000 [0.00], instead of issuing an error. After this, we struggled to find the zeroth order, and tried the grattilt reset command to go back to the hardware limits, as in the written documentation, but the command wasn't recognized. We did a help through Prospero, and determined that the command should have been grtilt reset , but that gave the following error: pr> grtilt reset PROGRAMMING ERROR (setdevice): UNRECOGNIZED COMMAND: GRTILT Execution error in Prospero command. Command: grtilt reset After manually scanning, we found the zero point, but the number in brackets changed (it used to be -6.11, and now it's more like -7.5). By this point, the sun was setting, so we decided not to waste more time trying to calibrate the 50 l/mm grating, and swapped it back to the 150 l/mm grating, which worked fine. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2006 Oct 11 [6:17:55]
