MDM Trouble Report for 2007 Feb 10 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Prieto (OSU) Instrument: 8k Problem(s) Encountered: The first problem I encountered was after aborting an exposure using ctrl-c. I wrongly tried to read it out and probably that caused all the trouble, the readout took minutes and at the end detcom sent an error of misscommunication with the boards. I tried turning on/off the instrument, detcom, etc. pon wasn't working, and finally rebooted vesuvius and started all again, then it worked fine (all with the help of Nestor). The only problem left is that from Hiltner I can't see Vesuvius to display images and for now I'm doing it from Agung (remotely), but will have to reboot Hiltner. The second problem came up after sending the command clean 20 , I'm guessing because 20 is not allowed (?). In detcome it appeared the following message: NO DON (0x00 dead) after readout from PCI board 0; pixels may be missing! . After I fixed this turning on/off the instrument (because lost communication again), in the first image I took chips 0,1,2 showed very high counts >~ 15,000 (corrupted images), while 4,5,6,7 showed normal levels. After taking biases the high values were still there. Then I turned off/on the instrument and detcom and it worked fine afterwards, the bias levels were normal. Finally, this is probably very easy to fix but I didn't figure out how. The guide stars are very elongated EW and I couldn't fix the effect with the guider focus (so I'm guessing is not a focus issue). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2007 Feb 10 [6:46:07]
