MDM Trouble Report for 2007 Jun 20 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): John Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: echelle CCD direct + 2 in FW Problem(s) Encountered: Three minor glitches, none of which cost any time: 1) During the afternoon something caused the mirror A/C breaker to trip. There was a large anomaly in the A/C temperature curve that lasted a couple hours, the problem occurred after that (there was also some kind of power glitch, the microwave oven clock was blinking). I caught the problem around 4 PM and reset the breaker, so the mirror was below ambient all night anyway. 2) After filling the dewar in the evening around 7 PM, I thought to check the temp with the ut command in ccdcom and found that it was around -94 C, but the set temp is -100. At first I thought I must have let the dewar warm up -- it had been about 15 hrs since I filled it, the days are so long now -- but that's never happened with this dewar before, and the temperature stayed a few degrees above the set point all night. I wonder if the very warm ambient T is causing too much heat to leak into the dewar? In any case, no time was lost. Unless the staff feels that the dewar needs to be taken off and checked immediately, I'll ask that it stay put, so that my flatfields etc do not need to be repeated. 3) The dome did not return to the home position at the end -- it was somewhat less than 2 feet out (it read 322.4 when manually returned to the contacts). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2007 Jun 21 [5:38:33]
