MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Jul 5 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): armstrong (columbia) Instrument: templeton Problem(s) Encountered: Tambora won't reboot normally. Two nights ago I shut it down *correctly*; yesterday I had to shutdown manually because its error prompt did not accept 'logout', 'exit', 'quit', or 'go bye-bye.' So it has now been shut down properly once, and improperly three times. EACH TIME, it gave this message: 'Unable to repair the / filesystem. Run fsck manually ... ' ... '/dev/dsk/c0t1d0s0 is not okay.' It invites me to proceed normal startup by hitting ctrl-d, but that takes me to a hopeless loop that produces only this: INIT: Cannot create /var/adm/utmp or /var/adm/utmpx INIT: Failed write of utmpx entry: ' ' INIT: SINGLE USER MODE I need the password (again) to login manually and run fsck. If this can be cleared up before tonight, I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Jul 6 [12:13:28]
