MDM Trouble Report for 2008 May 28 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): armstrong (columbia) Instrument: 4k Problem(s) Encountered: Around 22:00, about 20 minutes into a time series, Prospero began failing to write images. An exposure was taken and read out, but then Prospero said: [CB> ERROR: Cannot create unique FITS file #1 (/lhome/data/0805194K.590.fits)--Read-only file system, skipping...] and wouldn't write the image. I had just begun deleting old fits files from McGraw, and feared that I had deleted something vital. Talked to Jason Eastman by phone, who assured me that I hadn't. He suggested I restart everything. Restarted Prospero, ISIS, MDM TCS Agent, Caliban ... no change. Rebooted IC and McGraw, and toggled ccd power in dome. Then I was able to write images again. (Upon reboot, McGraw complained that it had been shut down improperly. But I had used the usual procedure.) But now, all new images coming in were blank! (Prospero recorded the shutter opening and closing, guider field was fine, and guider was not vignetting the ccd field.) So I listened for the shutter in the dome - it wasn't functioning. Toggled the power again, and that fixed it. So. I haven't a clue what's up with McGraw, and Prospero apparently sometimes says the shutter's opening and closing when, in fact, it isn't. It's now 2 hours later and things are buzzing along as usual. Please disregard that email I sent you hours ago, regarding my inability to delete read-only files. The files are accessible now that McGraw's rebooted. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 May 28 [1:32:20]
