MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Nov 1 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Halpern, Schroeder (Columbia) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: Sorry for issuing so many reports. In order to save these all in one message, I will append the previous reported problems to the new one. 4. We tried to slew to H.A = -5hr (east), Decl. = +34 deg and found that this violated some software limit. Experimenting, we found that the telescope wouldn't slew past -4hr 11m at Decl. = +34 deg, which is really unacceptable. The elevation is 38 deg at this limiting position. 1. The set speed on the hand paddle doesn't work. This is separate from the problem of the set button cover falling off, which Paul already knows about. We are using the software paddle instead, so this is not critical. But the ability to use the physical hand paddle to set is useful, as it saves time. 2. The CCD aquisition camera disconnected again. None of the recovery instructions in the manual fix it, except for powering down the camera. This doesn't lose much time, now that we know what to do. 3. Working at high dispersion in the blue (4000 A), the flat lamp is invisible, so we can't flat field the CCD. I don't remember it being so bad on the 2.4m, but it was never very bright in the blue there either. For this application and others, I would really like to get a bluer lamp. So I will discuss with the staff what kind of lamp we are using and what the options are. Do any other CCDS users have advice about this? ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Nov 1 [21:04:47] NOTE: This trouble report replaces the previous report for 2008 Nov 1
