MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Nov 20

Instrument: MkIII spectrograph + Nellie

Problem(s) Encountered:
Communications problems with Nellie again. It was not 
possible to download the code with the ccdcom command

> df Nellie

without losing communications with the camera. After some
tinkering, we found what may be a way around the problem:
instead of downloading the code with the usual command (df), 
we tried the two corresponding commands separately (ll,dl). 
So in ccdcom we first ran:

> ll /opt/local/pkg/ccd/dsp/nellie.lod

and then after a few seconds

> dl 

(Credit Sebastien for the idea.) Surprisingly, this was 
successful in downloading the code, and we haven't had 
any communications problem or  asynchronous read  
errors since.
 
While we don't really understand why this circumvents the
problem, all seems to be working OK at this time.
