MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Sep 27

Problem(s) Encountered:
I encountered two separate problems attempting to get on target.

The first was related to homing the focus.  I received the message
ERROR home 'axis=Sec fatal following error'.  This problem was
ultimately resolved by killing the TCS interface and server and
engaging the Emergency Stop interlock.  I initially tried simply
killing the TCS GUI and then both the GUI and the server, which
were unable to solve the problem.

The second problem took more time to resolve.  When I first
slewed to the field, the HA motor did not track smoothly but
jerked forward and backward in RA.  I tried several times to slew
back to the west and allow the telescope to drift into the desired
position, but this did not resolve the problem.  Ultimately, I had
to slew back to the zenith and reset the position to resolve the
problem.  This may simply have been because the field was far
enough to the west that the motor's vibrations were no longer
a problem.
