MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Apr 3 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): pereira (Columbia University) Instrument: 8k Problem(s) Encountered: The instrument dewar on the 8k seems to be leaking out the bottom. 5 min after the end of the refill it was still dripping at a fast rate (2/second). i refilled the dewar more frequently, and it seems to have held til the morning, although i'm not sure the temperature monitor on the 8k is working. there appears to be no increase in the bias noise. I did not refill it in the morning since it is being taken down today During a focus sequence the tcs computer crashed. After I entered tcs offset 0 10 in the detcom, an error message was returned saying the offset failed and the screen on the tcs monitor froze. The dome also went haywire, taking never-ending small rotations until i finally stopped it and reset it manually. With steven's help, I eventually did a reboot of the tcs computer and then restored pointing manually. After that, everything went ok, except that the telescope is routinely shifting about a second off the pointing along the EW direction, about 5 seconds after TCS says it has completed the move (not that the observing was affected by this). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Apr 4 [6:18:03]
