MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Feb 11 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Nathan Crockett (University of Michigan) Instrument: 8K Problem(s) Encountered: When observing on the previous night (beginning on 9 Feb), while shutting down I had to manually move the dome to home (dome AZ misaligned). This happened b/c I turned something off that forced the dome to stop before it reached home. I did not realize that I had to reset the dome AZ encoder until I opened yesterday (Feb. 10) when the dome slit did not align with the telescope. I reset the dome encoder using xtcs (put dome at home position and set it at 320 deg). The dome slit appeared to be aligned while I was observing but when I shut down for the day (today Feb 11), the dome was still slightly misaligned and I had to manually put the dome to home again and reset the dome encoder again. This wasn't really a problem I guess, I just wanted to make the staff aware of what happened. I also noticed increased noise on chip 4 of the 8K detector (the one adjacent to the dead chip; long streaks of elevated counts). Not sure if there is a known cause for this or if that chip acts up from time to time. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Feb 11 [7:44:25]
