MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Feb 27 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): John Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: echelle direct Problem(s) Encountered: Three items, two are not new, one is very minor. - Lost 10+ min to an episode of dome fugue. One cure is to turn off the yellow button -- the dome stops turning then -- set the dome manually (imagine that), and turn the button on some time later. There's a good chance the thing will have cleared by then. Turning it off and on doesn't cure it, it just lets you observe while the thing goes through its little process. - Had an asynchronous read error with the CCD that cost about 20 min altogether. This is an intermittent (and these days pretty rare) fault. - When I turned on the LN2 flow with the 50-L OSU dewar, the hose exploded up near the fill tube. Needs a new hose, I guess. Looked like an aneurysm. - No, make it four items! I was typing this with the other 50-L dewar sitting under the telescope after filling, waiting for its hose to thaw -- and I just heard a whooshing from the dome -- the plug (with valves, etc) blew out of the throat of the (other) 50 L dewar! Good thing it was cabled down, or it woulda probably whacked the instrument! I left it sitting as it was -- with the bottle open the pressure won't build. That's never happened to me before! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Feb 28 [7:11:45]
