MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Jun 14 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): John Tobin (Michigan) Instrument: TIFKAM Problem(s) Encountered: ADDED ON FOLLOWING EVENING: The NORTH petal of the mirror cover is getting stuck while openning. I first tried moving the valve from compressor to cylinder as described in the manual, this didn't work. I then slewed the telescope north to try assisting the opening of the cover. When I went out and looked at the cover, it appeared to get hung up on the central baffle. I turned the telescope down to an altitude of 20 degrees and the cover was still stuck. Moved it back to an altitude of 30 and got on the stairs and tapped the petal with my fist, it then fell open and the rest of the petals openned. PREVIOUS NIGHT: I had one issue with the telescope running into the soft limit on hour angle. I was trying to go to L1157 while it was airmass of 2.1, but its hour angle was -6, it's declination is +68. The TCS got pretty confused, trying to send the telescope through 90 degrees declination. I aborted the auto slew and slewed manually and ran into the soft limit. I called Bob and he talked me through getting out of it, just using set and going west for a minute. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Jun 14 [20:09:57] NOTE: This trouble report replaces the previous report for 2008 Jun 14
