MDM Trouble Report for 2008 Nov 3 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Mark Reynolds (UofM) Instrument: TIFKAM Problem(s) Encountered: At 0328 after taking an exposure the following error message was encountered. IC> WARNING: Unable to access head electronics. -SEC -HE IE=DISABLED After this, I was no longer able to contact the instrument and the CCD image on the IC monitor went blank. I tried restarting ISIS/TCS/Caliban/Prospero which did not help. In prospero, issuing a startup command failed due to the inability of the system to see the IE. I also tried pr> IC UARTINIT Error: Command returned error ERROR: Can't Initialize UARTs. Head Electronics UARTs are disabled. Try SEQINIT. Execution error in Prospero command. Command: IC UARTINIT pr> IC SEQINIT Error: Command returned error ERROR: Can't Initialize UARTs. Head Electronics UARTs are disabled. Try SEQINIT. Execution error in Prospero command. Command: IC SEQINIT Maybe this is a hardware problem. I also note that inspection of the instrument revealed the dewar vent to be obstructed with snow/ice, likely due to the high humidity (> 70%). Perhaps this contributed to the instrument crash. Decided to close for the night at 0430 as there didn't appear to be much chance of resurrecting TIFKAM. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2008 Nov 3 [5:09:29]
