MDM Trouble Report for 2009 Jan 1 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Tom Brink (University of Michigan) Instrument: 4K Problem(s) Encountered: Two unrelated problems occurred last night. First, I noticed that there appears to be a bug with the offset RA and offset dec line in the tcs gui. While pointing I tried to do an offset of (RA,DEC)=(0 ,400 ) using the offset line of the gui. When I executed this command, it did not move the telescope to the north, it moved to the Northeast, at about a 45 degree angle. I then tried an offset of (0 ,-400 ) to get back where I started. But it moved the telescope to the Southeast at about a 45 degree angle. Several other attempts to use this line of the gui to make offsets also resulted in (seemingly) random behavior. The pop-up Paddle gui from the tcs gui works as expected. So this is what I eventually used. The second problem I had was with the power supply for the guide camera. Three times during the night I noticed the guide star slowly fading away over a period of 5-10 minutes. The first time I saw this I thought it was just clouds. So I waited for them to pass, but they never did. I looked outside, and it seemed fairly clear, so I suspected something was wrong with the guider. It seems as though the power supply was slowly falling asleep. The fix I found was to wake it up by turning the Camera Intensity dial up and down a little bit. With in a few seconds the guide star reappeared as before. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2009 Jan 28 [8:22:30]
