MDM Trouble Report for 2009 Mar 22 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Patterson/Schroeder (Columbia) Instrument: Templeton Problem(s) Encountered: As reported before, declination oscillations on the order of one minute of arc in north/south as seen on the guider were observed again as last night, only more dramatic, making it impossible to image early evening targets. Bob Barr called and recommended that we experiment to see if turning off the drive helped the problem or not, but by that time we were not able to observe due to clouds. Upon opening again, the problem did not manifest, perhaps due to the fact that we engaged the e-stop and then released it to the problematic drive vibrations which Tom discovered can be stopped by applying a little pressure to the belt in the drive box. We also note that changing the focus on the telescope occasionally causes a similar declination shift of about one minute of arc. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2009 Mar 22 [5:46:42]
