MDM Trouble Report for 2009 Nov 1 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): D. Cotto-Figueroa, D. Riethmiller (Ohio University) Instrument: Echelle Problem(s) Encountered: During our opening checklist, the TCS computer froze, and we lost control of the telescope's drives. The telescope tipped over far enough to exceed what the partially rebooted TCS computer called a soft limit before stopping, and we saw liquid nitrogen leaking from the dewar. We used the hand paddle on the west fork tine to point to the zenith again, topped off the dewar (turns out it hadn't lost as much nitrogen as we thought), and followed the remaining steps in the manual for restoring coordinates using the tilt meters (section 5.4.7). We had no other problems for the remainder of the night. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2009 Nov 2 [6:53:21]
