MDM Trouble Report for 2010 Dec 30 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Bord (UofM) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: Checked dome area at start of evening calibrations; despite snow and wind, did not see any snow blowing into dome under slit at top of dome. Returned about 50 minutes later at end of calibration sequence to find snow accumulations on under side of shutter at top of dome, as well as two patches of snow about 8 inches in diameter each on the north leaf of mirror cover (which overlapped the south leaf). Some moisture seen on north side of secondary shield as well. Moved telescope about 25 degrees north and placed cover on light baffle. Removed snow from mirror cover, and reported situation to Bob Barr. No additional advice was offered, save to monitor the status during the evening. Swept snow and runoff from platform and checked telescope several times throughout the night. No further accumulation was found, and at this time (2:00 AM MST, 12/30/10), no further dripping from telescope cage is apparent. To be safe, have left the telescope pointing 25 degrees N, with the emergency stop button interlock engaged. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2010 Dec 30 [2:05:02]
