MDM Trouble Report for 2010 Sep 7 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Dietrich (OSU) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: When I was observing Feige110 I wanted to improve the pointing of the telescope. However, when reset tel.coord. I didn't check that the current telescope coord. are indeed the current ones. The pointing was lost and when I tried to transfer the current coordinates, the telescope moved into a position that the tilt meter reached a limit. Tracking wasn't allowed anymore. Only with small steps in DEC it was possible to get out of the RA limits. Fortunately, Josh Schroeder from the 2.4m came over and he knew how to increase the offsets which can be performed with the paddle. Finally, the telescope was moved to zenith, the tilt meter display was set to 0.00 0.00, and with a bright star the pointing was restored. - my fault There was also some nodding of the telescope while guiding. For short periods of time (2min - 3min) the telescope was nodding in RA with an amplitude of a few arcsec and During another exposure telescope was nodding in DEC with a similar amplitude. At the beginning of the night I failed to slew the telescope to the position of 3C390.3 (error: pointing not converging dist=66.357, dra=32.810 ddec=57.678). Hence, I moved to PG2130+099. After this object and about 90 min later it was possible without any problem to slew to 3C390.3. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2010 Sep 8 [5:37:30]
