MDM Trouble Report for 2010 May 3 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Skinner, Spellmire, Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: modspec + echelle CCD Problem(s) Encountered: The telescope control somehow got wedged into a state in which it was continually drifting east at the guide rate. This first manifested in an auto-set that did not complete and would not clear by the usual method. Julie went as far as going to the zenith and hitting the red stop button, but the problem persisted at which point she woke up John; we then cleared the problem by shutting down the TCS computer (using the orderly procedure described in the lighting shutdown sheet) and powering it off, together with the TCS power supply. Everything was fine when it came back up, and the problem did not recur. I (John) had never seen this behavior before. Before shutting down the TCS we closed the mirror cover; while it was closed, the AC computer was flashing a complaint about bad sensor data (same as last night). Oops, it just did it again (sorry, Britney) -- SYSTEM DISABLED -- Sensors appear to be malfunctioning. So, it looks like we still have this intermittent problem. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2010 May 4 [5:46:00] NOTE: This trouble report replaces the previous report for 2010 May 3
