MDM Trouble Report for 2010 Nov 3 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Joe Antognini (OSU) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: During the night, I tried to point the telescope to one of my objects (it was at 2h17m -05 12' and an airmass of 1.27). When I slewed the telescope, the monitor stated that the telescope was at an airmass of ~300. I then tried slewing the telescope to the zenith. The monitor claimed that the telescope was pointed at the zenith, but when I went out to check the telescope in the dome, it was pointed about 45 degrees away from the zenith. I tried pointing the telescope to another object and watched it move and it seemed to be unable to move with respect to the fork it's mounted on. I went out to the dome to look around and I found that one of the large metallic hoses for the air conditioning had become wedged in between one prong of the fork and the edge of the base of the telescope. This seemed to be preventing the telescope from moving with respect to the fork. After I removed the hose, the telescope ran fine although one of the motors continued to squeak for the next few pointings. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2010 Nov 4 [7:06:16]
