MDM Trouble Report for 2011 Feb 25 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Kreckel & Miller (Columbia & U. Michigan) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: We encountered problems with the focus, as what is focused in the acquisition camera (in the reflection off the slit) is not focused on the CCD image. This is seen as one target producing two spectra at different locations along the slit, presumably because it is defocused into a donut. The difference in focus was 70-80 focus units. We checked that there were no filters or prefilters on the slit and the clear (not the empty) filter was selected on the acquisition camera. We then called Bob to see if there was anything we could do ourselves to fix this but it seems there isn't. We did manage a work around, adjusting the focus back and forth a lot to move items into the slit and then refocus to take science data. This worked OK as we have only a few targets and long exposures, but we lost a fair amount of time and may not have aligned faint targets in the slit very well. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2011 Feb 26 [6:42:20]
