MDM Trouble Report for 2011 Jan 29 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): John Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: Modspec+Templeton Problem(s) Encountered: One minor glitch: At one point, for some reason, I cculdn't get the guider Settings window to pop up in Maxim DL. This is needed if you're rotating the instrument from time to time. I had to restart the program, re-calibrate, etc. Only a few minutes lost Also, through this whole run the profiles of the images on the slit have been odd -- usually asymmetric, sometimes slightly doubled, sometimes not so bad. This usually indicates bad focus or guiding, but I don't think this is the case. I'm wondering if the telescope could be out of collimation (from out of focus images I think it may be) and whether that could possibly affect them, but I'm stumped... this doesn't call for any diagnostic action at this time, except for checking the collimation next time it's convenient. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2011 Jan 30 [7:24:12]
