MDM Trouble Report for 2011 Jul 2 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Henderson (OSU) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: This is Jules Halpern writing: The TCS program could not be exited in the prescribed manner in the process of doing a lightning shutdown because the yellow telescope icon does not respond to the mouse. Inexplicably, the telescope icon is the lower left corner of the screen, whereas its usual position is in the upper left. So the TCS computer was shut off anyway, without first quitting the program. When the system was brought back up around 1am, the telescope would run away to the north when trying to point at the nearest bright star. It appeared that the Declination encoder was not working. It would update the coordinate when moving south, but it would not update when moving north. Observing could not proceed in this condition so we stowed the telescope, and reset the encoder for the zenith position. The internet did not come up, even though the T1 router seemed to be working. In the morning I cycled the power on the T1 router, whioh restored the connection. I'm not sure why this was necessary. Thus the delay in filing this report. I also notified Bob of the telescope problems by telephone. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2011 Jul 3 [11:49:11]
