MDM Trouble Report for 2012 Apr 1 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Price-Whelan (Columbia University) Instrument: CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: I started the night thinking I was going to open, so I ran through the startup procedure. I filled the CCD dewar as normal (as I was shown the previous two nights) and noted the temperature was reasonable at the beginning of the night. I didn't open the telescope the whole night due to wind, and at the end of the night (5AM) I decided to run 'docalibs' anyway. When the first xenon exposure was finished, I saw that the image was almost completely red. I ran out and checked the CCD temperature and it had gone up to -20C. I immediately refilled the dewar and the temperature started to decrease again. I noticed when I was filling the tank at the start of the night that after a few minutes, quite a lot of nitrogen was dripping out of the dewar *and* the hose -- perhaps there was a leak near the zip-tie, and the dewar didn't get filled properly? ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Apr 2 [5:19:26]
