MDM Trouble Report for 2012 Jul 05 Telescope: 2.4m Observer(s): Rhiannon Griffin, Jenna Nugent (University of Oklahoma) Instrument: OSMOS Problem(s) Encountered: We had a few issues pop up tonight. 1. While taking dome flats there seemed to be water or condensation on the primary mirror or some of the equipment since we observed a weird circular effect in the middle of our images. When we went to observe a few hours later, this effect was no longer there 2. While taking dome flats, we had issues changing the filter. In the pr window, there was an error: ERROR: FILTER1 FILTER1=3 Move Fault, position at end of move 3 but requested position 2 Error setting the Filter1 Programming Error: invalid error code: -99 Typing 'filter1 reset' fixed the issue (found in the OSMOS manual) 3. When we started to fill the dewar, the tube connected to the nitrogen tank expanded like a balloon (for about 8 inches or so). We were able to fill the dewar and disconnect the hose without issues. We did not fill the dewar in the morning, waiting on a tube replacement 4. We had issues with pointing, due to some user error and due to the tiltmeters not being exact/ zenith being off. There was also some confusion since the Guide Star Selector North/East directions are not the same as the telescope slew north or as ds9 north. We established pointing and after stowing the telescope found that zenith was about +0.11,.12 for X and +0.04 for Y (not quite what the post it note says in the control room). Moonlit clouds also didn't help since the sky was off and on partly/mostly cloudy. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Jul 6 [4:47:32] NOTE: This trouble report replaces the previous report for 2012 Jul 05
