MDM Trouble Report for 2013 Apr 22 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Eric Gaidos (Univ. Hawaii) Instrument: 4K Problem(s) Encountered: Intermittent communication with MIS/filter wheel, shutter, and guider camera. First appeared as failure message when trying to move filter wheel. Secondly, guider software would be unable to find the FLI camera and guiding would hang. Finally, 4K shutter would occasionally not operate. Symptoms tended to appear when telescope was heeled over (low altitude) and could be ameliorated when pointed at zenith. I went and jiggled all the cables I could reach on the telescope, and this seemed to help, for the moment. I found that after communication with guider camera is lost it is necessary to reboot the guider software computer, i.e. just restarting the program is not sufficient. When first installing any instrument recommend that the telescope be moved to a low altitude to check for such intermittency, which might not be apparent when it is stowed at zenith. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 Apr 23 [1:38:20]
