MDM Trouble Report for 2013 Jun 08 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): John Thorstensen (Dartmouth) Instrument: Andor Problem(s) Encountered: Hill crashed twice; once near the start, and once at the end. The symptom was that the TCS gui complained of not having a server connected; powering Hill off and on and restarting the telescope server on McGraw (as I eventually remembered) solved this. I discovered after the fact that Hill has a monitor in the control room, but when TCS wouldn't connect, I couldn't ssh into hill either, so I assume it had crashed. The Andor software abruptly complained of a problem near the end of the night and wouldn't do anything with the camera. I tried restarting the software, but it wouldn't reconnect with the camera. I went down to the 1.3m, and tried powering the Andor off and on by unplugging it; it still wouldn't connect. Then I power-cycled the USB hub on the telescope by unplugging it; no dice. Then I powered the control computer off and on, and still no luck. The computer is complaining on startup that a USB device is malfunctioning, which I'm afraid is the camera. So I would seem to be dead in the water. The timeseries photometry is a secondary program, and the telescope is closed up and safe, so there's no pressing need for a trip to the mountain. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 Jun 9 [4:57:45]
