MDM Trouble Report for 2013 May 29 Telescope: 1.3m Observer(s): Dale Mudd (Ohio State University) Instrument: 4k CCDS Problem(s) Encountered: Had an issue with the fine guider camera not being able to sit still on a guide star, severely overcorrecting itself and causing the telescope to lose its target quickly. After talking some with Eric, figured that the problem was a leftover of last night- the TCS paddle gain was set too high from when we were trying to move the telescope with the handpaddle. Overcorrections solved by the command tx paddle gain= 0.005 . Then noticed that the corrections, while now reasonable in magnitude, were going in the wrong direction. Still a leftover issue from the night before, this was solved by putting the X speed and Y speed of the camera at -8 for an angle of 90 degrees. This worked well until the telescope started nodding in N-S direction severely on the target of interest around midnight. The standard stars, which were at higher declination but similar hour angles. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 May 30 [5:14:07]
